I have known Jean-Louis Sanchez for more than two decades.

I have interacted with him professionally, personally and socially and I consider him as a friend with whom I take special time to have a chat with, in every conference/meeting/occasion to meet. He was a genuine person and was one of the few people I could consult on many issues. I trusted him to the extent that when my daughter, Priyanka De Souza, asked me where she could spend her master internship, LAAS under Jean-Louis Sanchez was my first choice. She enjoyed her time at LAAS very much. In 2009-2010, Sanchez and I were discussing about his invitation for me to spend three months in his lab each year for a few years and we were going to firm this up, until this unfortunate event happened. His sad death is a great loss to his family, his friends and the scientific and technical community world-wide.

I was fortunate enough to closely know Jean-Louis Sanchez for many years since we worked together as members of the Executive Technical Committee of the International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD). Since the ISPSD is truly an international conference being held each year in a different city alternating between North America, Asia and Europe, I had the opportunity to travel and meet with Jean-Louis in many different parts of the world. Jean-Louis was always fascinated to know about the different cultural aspects of the countries we visit with the same level of enthusiasm as his interest in the technical exchanges. His friendly, warm and cordial attitude in addition to his very valuable technical contributions made him extraordinarily popular not only among the Executive Technical Committee members but also to all the conference attendees from all over the world. The death of Jean-Louis Sanchez is a great loss to all the community of Power Semiconductor Devices. Jean-Louis’s big smile is going to be missed!
